Features
constructed with a pair of right angle prisms
These beam splitters consist of a pair of precise right-angle prisms, either N-BK7 or UV fused silica, carefully glued together to minimize wavefront distortion. The hypotenuse of one of the prisms is plated with a multilayer all-dielectric depolarizing beam splitter coating optimized for the specific laser line. The four surfaces are coated with a multilayer dielectric film antireflection film to minimize the surface reflection loss of the laser line.
appropriate direction
A prism beam splitter is formed by gluing two right-angle prisms together. The hypotenuse of one of the prisms is coated with a partially reflective metal-dielectric coating. In the Newport prism beam splitter, the coated prism has a clearly visible point as a mark. The incident light should enter the prism through the hypotenuse with the coating to minimize the power passing through the optical cement. A beam entering through an uncoated prism would otherwise produce more than three times the fluence in the cement (transmission component plus double pass of the reflection component). Higher power beams may cause degradation of the bonding agent.
all dielectric reflective surface
Unlike metal-dielectric hybrid broadband depolarizing cubic beam splitters, these all-dielectric coatings exhibit near-zero absorption, achieving true 50/50 splitting of the beam. These low absorption all dielectric beam splitters have a higher damage threshold suitable for higher power laser applications where the broadband cube beam splitter may suffer damage due to absorption causing local heating.
