These plano-concave lenses are made of RoHS-compliant N-BK7 glass. N-BK7 is probably the most commonly used optical glass for high quality optical components. If the additional advantages of UV fused silica (I. e. good transmission in the ultraviolet region and low coefficient of thermal expansion) are not required, it is generally the most suitable choice. Like all plano-concave lenses, these lenses have a negative focal length and can divert a collimated beam.
In this case, the curved surface of the lens should be oriented toward the light source to minimize spherical aberration. In addition, they can compensate for spherical aberration caused by other lenses in the optical system.

The following figure is the transmittance curve of RoHS-compliant N-BK7. The total transmittance is shown for a 10 mm thick uncoated sample and includes surface reflection.
