Features
Elimination of ghosting caused by multiple surface reflections
The pellicle beam splitter is an ultra-light component that essentially eliminates multiple reflections caused by thicker glass beam splitters. Thin films were produced by stretching a 5 µm thick polymer film on a flat metal frame. The thickness of the film is extremely thin, eliminating secondary reflections by making it coincident with the original beam. Another additional advantage of ultra-thin reflective films is multi-wavelength versatility.
interference effect
When using the thin film as a low resolution interferometer, the interference effect of the thin film should be considered. Although thin films can eliminate ghosting in incoherent white light applications, in monochromatic applications, interference between the front and back surfaces may bring unwanted fringes into the transmitted or reflected beam. Within any wavelength range and specific angle of incidence, ± 5% sinusoidal oscillations are superimposed on the spectral transmission and reflection diagrams. A slight change in the incident angle will cause a drastic change in the oscillation. When a thin film is used to split a beam of angles across a certain span, the oscillation will reach equilibrium.
vibration effect
An extremely thin film has many advantages in reducing loss and eliminating ghost images. However, vibrations in the environment can cause the polymer film to resonate. When mounting the film to the optical bench, use a rigid tie bar or an adjustment pad. For applications affected by air flow or noise, glass beam splitters should be used.
