Polarizer (Polarizer referred to as POL), full name is also called polarizer. The polarizer is one of the important components of the liquid crystal display module, and almost all display modules will use the polarizer. Now even with the development of science and technology, the polarizer has been applied to some high-tech precision instruments, expanding its scope of application.
The principle of the polarizer is actually very simple, that is, it can play a polarizing role. Polarizer can control the transmission of light. Natural light is omnidirectional and full-angle divergence. However, after passing through the polarizer, the light beam in the specified direction can be controlled to pass through, and other light beams parallel to the polarization angle will be absorbed, leaving only the light beam perpendicular to the polarization angle.
Linearly polarized light: After natural light passes through a polarizing device, only one direction of polarized light can pass through this device, and we get linearly polarized light. The vibration direction of the linearly polarized light is determined.
Partially polarized light: If the linearly polarized light is mixed with a part of natural light, that is, this light contains polarized light in various directions, and the advantage of polarization is reflected in a certain direction. This is partially polarized light.
Circularly polarized light: The direction of polarization of this light is regularly rotated. The intensity of the light vector during rotation remains constant. That is, the light vector rotates along a circle. This is the polarized light. After averaging over our observation period, circularly polarized light looks the same as natural light. However, the polarization direction of circularly polarized light changes according to a certain law, while the polarization direction of natural light changes randomly and irregularly.
Elliptically polarized light: The polarization direction of this light is also rotating regularly, but its light vector also changes in intensity during the rotation. That is, the light vector rotates along an ellipse, and the result of the elliptically polarized light averaged over the observation period is similar to that of partially polarized light. However, unlike partially polarized light, its polarization direction and the size of the light vector change according to a certain rule.
