Technical Data

Equilateral Dispersion Prism (Equilateral Dispersion Prisms)The angles of the three angles are all 60 °, which can separate light of different wavelengths. For example, a dispersion prism can replace a diffraction grating to divide white light into the visible spectrum. Dispersion prisms are generally used with a minimum deviation angle. Under the condition of the minimum deviation angle, the incident light of a certain wavelength passes through the prism parallel to the bottom surface, and when measured relative to the normal of the prism surface of the respective interface, the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of refraction.

The definition of the minimum deflection angle is shown in the following figure. When α = β, the deflection of the incident light and the outgoing light is the smallest when the refracted light in the prism is parallel to the bottom surface. The formula below is limited to materials with a refractive index less than 2. For a material with a refractive index greater than 2, such as ZNSE, since the refractive index deviation will cause total reflection of the light in the state of the right figure at the exit surface, the light will exit from the bottom surface. Therefore, the ZNSE prism needs to polish 3 sides.
