The GJ-011 is a handheld device designed to remove the lid from a standard laser diode package. There are many applications (such as fiber pigtails) that can be optimized by being close to the laser chip. WR1 can also be used to turn on the photodiodes and LEDs of TO packages (TO-3,TO-5,TO-8,TO-18,TO-39 or TO-46).
The operation is very simple, just place the diode in the two wheels on the front of the device, gently press the grip of the rubber skin, and turn the blade driver (as shown in the picture above). Precisely ground, hardened steel blades can easily cut off the wall of the diode cover and carefully remove it. For packages larger than 20mm(0.8 inches) in diameter, the roller must be removed and reinstalled in its outer mounting position with a 5/64 inch (2mm) hex wrench. Knurled knobs can be removed or reinstalled using a 0.05 inch (1.3mm) hex wrench.
