The fiber-coupled optical amplifier has been integrated into an easy-to-use bench-top unit. When using, just connect the fiber jumper of the FC/APC connector to its input and output connectors, and use the dial on the front panel to set the drive current and temperature. A 0 - 5 V input signal is used to modulate the drive current to a maximum of 250 kHz (equivalent to 0 transmission and maximum gain, respectively) via a BNC connector located on the back panel of the optical amplifier. The built-in microcontroller ensures that the amplifier is not overdriven by the modulation current. The LCD of the optical amplifier displays its drive current and measured temperature, as well as the center wavelength and amplifier type (SOA or BOA) of the optical amplifier. The USB interface allows these optical amplifiers to be controlled remotely from a PC (see the manual for a series of commands to run the optical amplifier from the command line interface).
BOA与SOA
A booster optical amplifier (BOA) is a polarization-sensitive device that can only amplify light with a specific polarization state. Our BOA pigtail is a polarization-maintaining fiber that amplifies light aligned to the slow axis of the input fiber connector. Our benchtop BOA can be selected from center wavelengths of 1050, 1300, 1550, 1590 and 1625 nm. For 1550 nm wavelength amplification, we also offer semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs), which are used for polarization insensitive applications and have a lower maximum gain than the BOA.
