The near-infrared transmissive grating is designed for the 500 nm to 1.8 μm wavelength range. Transmission gratings are well suited for fixed grating applications, such as spectrometers, due to their basic simplicity. The incident beam is dispersed at a fixed angle at the back of the grating. Transmission gratings provide low alignment sensitivity, minimizing alignment errors. These grooved transmission gratings are designed to provide optimal near-infrared performance, providing varying degrees of dispersion. In most cases, for the same wavelength range, the efficiency of these gratings is comparable to that of reflection gratings such as reticle gratings or holographic gratings.
Inevitably, transmission gratings require a relatively wide groove pitch to maintain high efficiency. Since the diffraction angle increases as the groove pitch decreases, the refractive properties of the substrate material will limit the transmittance at long wavelengths, resulting in reduced performance. However, the dispersive properties of the grating are well suited for compact systems using small detector arrays. Such gratings are less sensitive to polarization. Our near-infrared transmission gratings are available in two different sizes, each size offering two blaze angle options. Please see the performance characteristics in the graph below.
