Invited Report Session
To encourage more young talents to pursue excellence in the field of laser and quantum technology, this conference specially planned and jointly held the RISE (Rose in Science & Elite) activity. RISE was initiated by the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 2015, aiming to promote global scientific progress, encourage young researchers and students, especially women, to actively participate in scientific undertakings, and cultivate future leaders for technological innovation.
One of the initiators of RISE, Wang Hui, the deputy director of the graduate department of Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, began by introducing the background of the event and the development history of RISE. This RISE event boasted a strong lineup of guests, bringing together many internationally renowned scholars and industry leaders, including Academician Minghui Hong, Bai Yuhong, the founder of the Light Brand and executive editor of Light: Science & Applications, Professor Shibin Jiang, CEO of AdValue Photonics Inc, Professor Wilhelm Pfleging, Professor Danqing Wang of Fudan University, and Dr. Yaseera Ismail. The event was hosted by Qiao Shantong and Huang Anyi, doctoral students from the graduate department of Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics. These student hosts posed a series of in-depth questions to the guests concerning the challenges graduate students face in their studies and growth, such as: how to find the best development path between academia and industry, how to improve scientific research and innovation capabilities, and how to cope with research pressure and career choices. The guests, drawing on their own experiences in scientific research and career development, engaged in in-depth discussions on these topics, providing valuable guidance and suggestions to young scholars.
