Ningbo Materials Institute has made progress in the research of flexible perovskite/silicon laminated solar cells.
Author:
As an emerging research hotspot in the photovoltaic industry, the photoelectric conversion efficiency of perovskite/silicon laminated solar cells has been rapidly improved. At present, the efficiency of rigid perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells reaches 33.9%, exceeding the theoretical limit efficiency of traditional crystalline silicon of 29.4%, but there are no reports on flexible perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells. The main reason is that the ultra-thin silicon bottom cell of the flexible perovskite/silicon laminated solar cell has a difficult problem, that is, the reduction of silicon thickness leads to serious light absorption loss and strong surface reflection, resulting in the short-circuit current density loss of the laminated device, making the flexible laminated device inefficient.
Recently, the silicon-based solar energy and wide band gap semiconductor research team led by Ye Jichun, a researcher at Ningbo Institute of Materials, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has made progress in flexible perovskite/silicon laminated solar cells based on previous research on crystalline silicon, perovskite and their laminated cells. The team reports flexible perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells. The steady-state certified efficiency and power-to-mass ratio of the battery reach 22.8% and 3.12W g, respectively-1, which represents one of the highest power-to-mass ratio devices in high-efficiency flexible solar cells. In this study, the light absorption ability and mechanical stability of ultra-thin silicon bottom cell are improved by adjusting the thickness of silicon wafer and the characteristic size of light trapping structure. The mechanism of mechanical "neutral plane" slip to improve the flexibility of perovskite/silicon laminated cell is proposed. The influence of substrate structure on the morphology and photoelectric properties of perovskite is discussed. The study found that the flexible perovskite/silicon laminated device still maintains an initial efficiency of 98.2 percent after 3000 bending cycles, and after 100 hours of working stability testing, the flexible laminated device can also maintain an initial efficiency of 90.6 percent, showing good mechanical and working stability. This achievement is expected to promote the development and application of low-cost, high-performance and lightweight flexible perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells.

The related research results were published in Science Bulletin (Science Bulletin) under the title of Ultrathin(~ 30μm)flexible monolithic perovskite/silicon tandem solar cell. The research work is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Key R & D Program, the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, the Zhejiang Natural Science Foundation, the Zhejiang Key R & D Program, and the Ningbo Key R & D Project.
